Background
The Challenge
During the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Gujarat's election officials needed rapid, accurate access to election guidelines. Existing processes relied on manual reference searches, slowing decision-making during a high-stakes, time-sensitive period.
The Opportunity
Grids and Guides partnered with Gujarat's election authorities (IAS) to build Election Gujarat 2024 — an AI-powered tool integrating a RAG database with ChatGPT to provide instant, multilingual query resolution for officials in the field.
Challenges
Time Sensitivity
The Lok Sabha election created an immovable deadline. Development had to move swiftly with minimal margin for error — shipping a reliable, tested tool within weeks.
Accurate Multilingual Translation
Election officials operate across linguistic backgrounds. Ensuring precise, context-accurate translation between English and Gujarati — including Gujarati typed in English (transliteration) — was a significant technical challenge.
Our Approach
RAG + LLM Integration
Combined a MongoDB vector database (containing the full election guidelines corpus) with ChatGPT to enable semantic search and natural language answer generation grounded in official documentation.
Multilingual Query Handling
Implemented advanced translation algorithms to accurately convert queries and responses between English and Gujarati, enabling officials to interact in their preferred language.
Real-Time Response
Officials could submit queries and receive prompt responses directly sourced from the election guidelines database — reducing lookup time from minutes to seconds.
